There is a quote from Jim Henson.
"Taking something enormously strange and somehow making it strangely familiar."
That is a great summation of what we do as designers. We bring something that is so far apart, seemingly different, but through the art and craft of our discipline, we make/communicate/distill ideas into reality.
One of my friend posted this on her wall few days ago, and I thought it was one of the best reminders of what we try to do every day in design, including interaction design. That quote has moved me. That and Bruce Lee's "Be like water."
For Thursday, we are back to group critique, as stated in the project PDF. Same drill as last time. Email me, by 2 PM, your current progress/iterations in PDF form. You should have applied the feedback you received from me in addition to 10 layout/composition explorations for your widget.
The 10 layout/composition explorations are done in black and white, wireframe (digitally drawn or hand sketched) and explores the main screen only. Think broadly and explore.
Also, you should start thinking about the visual patterns of the widget. Look around and see how other widgets/apps are being rendered. What are the color patterns, typography, etc.
All the time, everything you make is to be aesthetically functional. Remember to ask this of your widget; it it useful, usable and desirable?
